Iceland Favourites

We have been running photography workshops in Iceland for many years now. There's nothing like having good experience of locations, and an even greater insight into weather and conditions. It makes for a safer and better photography experience. Alas I digress. Iceland is one of those places that simply knocks your socks off. Stunning and unusual, challenging and rewarding. A landscape photographers paradise. We love it so much we will be returning to run workshops of various lengths later this year and in 2019. Iceland West Coast - Nov 2018 Iceland South Coast - Feb 2019 Iceland West Coast Feb 2019 With many years experience shooting and running workshops in Iceland it seemed to make sense to compile a blog with some of our very favourite images. Hope you enjoy ! [caption id="attachment_5726" align="alignnone" width="1200"] Thor get off that iceberg! Actually don't its a great picture.. Wait for a big wave instead :)[/caption] [caption id="attachment_5745" align="alignnone" width="1200"] A still subtle morning at the galcial lagoon Iceland. Perfect for patterns and reflections.[/caption] [caption id="attachment_5743" align="alignnone" width="1200"] Water rushing off the most beautiful roof I have ever seen. Cant wait to go shoot the ice caves again this year..[/caption] [caption id="attachment_5741" align="alignnone" width="1200"] Perfect reflections and a gentle aurora. That mountain ain't bad either.[/caption] [caption id="attachment_5740" align="alignnone" width="1275"] Fantasy land at the end of the earth. This image was hard fought but so worth it. Never seen so many stars.[/caption] [caption id="attachment_5737" align="alignnone" width="1200"] It was hard to know where the sky begun and ended. We we're already late for breakfast with very little sleep but I just had to skip it and grab the shot.[/caption] [caption id="attachment_5736" align="alignnone" width="1200"] Cold crisp mornings at the iconic plane wreck. More difficult to access than ever.[/caption] [caption id="attachment_5641" align="alignnone" width="960"] Buried in the snow .. A thing of beauty ..[/caption] [caption id="attachment_5735" align="alignnone" width="1200"] I enjoy the simplicity in this scene. The aurora was going off at Skogafoss on iceland's south coast..[/caption] [caption id="attachment_5734" align="alignnone" width="1200"] I love the clean minimal space you find on Iceland's desolate landscape. Please add rainbow:)[/caption] [caption id="attachment_5733" align="alignnone" width="1200"] Looking for that perfect combo of icebergs on the black beach in Iceland can be tough sometimes. Couple that with a great sky and it can be a pretyy photogenic place..[/caption] [caption id="attachment_5739" align="alignnone" width="1200"] The perfect peaks. A gentle aurora but we had a great foreground and the place all to ourselves.[/caption] [caption id="attachment_5732" align="alignnone" width="1199"] Just nothing but that mountain. That will do ..[/caption] [caption id="attachment_5731" align="alignnone" width="1222"] Trying to find something a little more original on that beach. Who needs separation?[/caption] [caption id="attachment_5738" align="alignnone" width="1200"] Dark, dark, dark. What can I say. It was an amazing night and I love dark top and bottom.[/caption] [caption id="attachment_5730" align="alignnone" width="1200"] Perfect pastels at the glacial lagoon on Icelands south coast..[/caption] [caption id="attachment_5729" align="alignnone" width="1200"] Totally engulfed by snow and wind. Just raw energy..[/caption] [caption id="attachment_5728" align="alignnone" width="1200"] We eventaully became surrounded by howling winds and intense snow but in the middle of the snow storm there was a moment. These are my favourite times as weather builds or declines into something genuinely powerful. Iceland 2015 and my personal favourite in 2015..[/caption] [caption id="attachment_5727" align="alignnone" width="1215"] Frozen black beach anyone?[/caption] [caption id="attachment_5725" align="alignnone" width="1168"] It was like we had ordered a spotlight. Fleeting but amazing light. Just how I like it ..[/caption] [caption id="attachment_5745" align="alignnone" width="1200"] A still subtle morning at the glacial lagoon Iceland. Perfect for patterns and reflections.[/caption] [caption id="attachment_5742" align="alignnone" width="1200"] It's literally a huge cavern of insanely beautiful patterns..make sure to get yourself down to a cave in Iceland asap..[/caption]

Iceland Trip Report 2018 – NEW IMAGES

I'm still trying to catch up on the mammoth task of editing my best images from a hectic winter season. As always there isn't enough hours in the day. Nevertheless, I wanted to try and share some new images from our recent trip to the south coast of Iceland and Snaefellsness. Loads more to edit but this should give you a good idea of how the trip panned out. If your thinking of coming to Iceland with us take a look at some of the links below. It dictates the style and atmosphere. We would love to be able to control the weather, but alas its out of our hands:) What we can control is how we react to it. I would like to think that we work really hard to deliver great opportunities in all situations and this is a key part of the ExploreLight model. The first part of this years trip put this theory to the test with a lot of rain and oftentimes really tough conditions. Nevertheless we pushed hard to try and get everyone out and engaged. With a positive attitude, great local knowledge and skill in adjusting to the conditions we we're able to make some stunning images using the grey skies and moody atmosphere to our advantage. We had a great crew of people on board and everyone showed great dedication to come home with some great images. If part one of the trip was being dubbed the 'Moody Blues' I think it's fair the call the second part of the adventure 'The Green Machine'. After some pretty big downpours the skies opened up and we experienced an epic night of northern lights. Intense displays with exploding coronas and all kind of amazing green magic. Truly a night to remember. I always feel like on every trip you get something different. You never hit everything in perfect light, or at least how the participants imagined it. But with experience you are able to guide people to make great images in all conditions. Have a look at the images below from our winter 2018 trip plus a few all time favourites below. I hope you enjoy and see you in Iceland soon. Lots of great trips to choose from :) Best ..
