Philosophy – Dedication, Small Groups and Care
We’re big believers in going to the limits to get you the very best shot. When you come away on a workshop or tour with ExploreLight, you can expect us to push hard to get you in the best location at the best time of day. We are motivated and dedicated to our craft, and we want that dedication and motivation to be transmitted to our participants. One more shot, one more chance, let’s make the most of this trip and come home with the very best set of images possible.
We also advocate a personable approach to our trips with really great instructor to participant ratios. Most of our trips operate a 4 to 1 ratio, participant to instructor. We like small groups. We dont want people getting in each other’s way. We want a personable experience where our attendees get plenty of individual attention and a great small group experience.
We also believe in ensuring people stay in good quality accommodation. Single occupancy as standard. Our feeling is that if you are travelling with people you don’t know, there’s a required level of comfort and privacy at the end of the day. No compromises on this point.
The vast majority of our business is repeat business and we feel like this personable, dedicated and caring approach is what makes us stand out. Make sure to join our mailing list if you want to hear about new trips first. Much of 2019 is already fully booked.
About Us & Our Photography Workshops and Courses
ExploreLight Photography Workshops is an international centre of excellence for landscape and nature photography workshops, tours and courses. Our workshops and tours are run by established teachers and artists that will bring you to stunning locations while imparting a wealth of experience and knowledge.
Explorelight Workshops was originally established by award-winning Irish photographer Peter Gordon in 2009, as part of the ExploreLight fine art family, created by Peters father, Ed. We also have expert logistical help from Jelena Derk making sure all aspects of our workshops go smoothly.
The business has grown, and so has the range of workshops we offer. The philosophy remains the same. Ireland is our home turf, but we love to travel with like-minded photographers, hence you will find workshops on our site to locations such as Iceland, Norway, Dolomites, Tuscany, Faroes, Montenegro and Scotland. Watch this space – we are always adding new locations.
We also embrace a range of landscape photography styles so we have brought top international photographers such as Daragh Muldowney and Michael Mclaughlin on board to run a number of ExploreLight workshops, seminars and tours. We believe more ideas make us, and the people we teach and guide, better photographers.
‘Something deep within tempted me to attend an ExploreLight fundamentals workshop in the Wicklow National Park in March 2015. I remember coming home feeling invigorated, that a new world was about to open up for me. My photography has improved steadily since. So much so that I recently achieved my Associate distinction from the IPF, but more importantly I have met fantastic people many of whom are now considered friends. I’ve attended many more ExploreIrish workshops since and visited fantastic locations all under the expert guidance of Peter Gordon and Daragh Muldowney. These guys are good and are at the top of their game and super professional. I recommend ExploreLight because they are the best Photography workshop and tour operators out there.’ Noel McIntyre AIPF.
“Over the last few years I have spent time with Peter Gordon on a one-to-one basis and on some of his Photography Tours to the West of Ireland, Scotland and Montenegro. If you want to improve your techniques and learn more about taking photographs, particularly Landscape, Peters knowledge and gentle teaching skills guarantee that you will become a better photographer. In addition, his knowledge of locations and changing light conditions mean that you will be in the right location to take home some beautiful images.” Colin Ball
‘The highest compliment one can give a Peter is not to say that one wholeheartedly agrees with his observations, but that he provoked – really, forced – difficult thinking about consequential matters and internal questioning of one’s own assumptions, often without quick or clear resolution’ Henry McCrea
